Bulgaria - Sozopol
Sozopol
With similarities to its sister town of Nesebur, Sozopol makes for a great day out. During my visit in early September the Apollonia Arts Festival was taking place. The main street was lined with market stalls and music makers.
Sozopol is a small fishing port and also serves one of Bulgaria’s chief naval bases. Since the 1970’s it has been popular with German and Eastern European tourists. The town is built up with 19th Century houses on a rocky headland, two beaches and plenty of bars and restaurants. Take a leisurely stroll through the cobbled streets and timber framed houses passing stone ruins along the way. The old town lies on the peninsular and the modern Harmanite area is on the mainland.
Traveling a few km south it’s worth taking a cruise along Ropotomo river, and one can spot interesting wildlife such as herons.
